Assessment tools in practice and NICE guidance NG87
In this module we explore NICE Guidance NG87 on the recognition, referral, diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. We look specifically at the tools used in the assessment process and choosing the right tools and screening tools for both adults and children.
We review the typical journey for a patient with ADHD from referral to diagnosis.
We consider the red flags of ADHD, or when we should and should not assess a patient and what advice and guidance can support our decisions in everyday practice.
Learning objectives
At the end of this module the healthcare practitioner will be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge of NICE guidelines NG87 in assessing, treating and caring for a patient with ADHD.
Differentiate between the benefits of different tools in the assessment process.
Describe the different needs of patients with a differential diagnosis and the impact on assessment.
Demonstrate an understanding or possible red flags in ADHD assessment for both adults and children.
Recognise the purpose of the information gathering phase of the assessment process
